(Liriope muscari)

Lilyturf, Monkey grass, Liriope
Liriope muscari is a flowering evergreen perennial plant species that belongs to the family Asparagaceae. It is native to East Asia and is commonly known as Lilyturf, Big Blue Lilyturf, or Monkey Grass. It has long, narrow leaves that grow in tufts, and produces spikes of small, lavender-purple flowers in late summer.
12-24 inches (30-60 cm)
Liriope muscari prefers partial to full shade, but can tolerate some sun in cooler climates. It is adaptable to a range of light conditions.
Liriope muscari prefers moderate to high humidity levels. Mist the leaves occasionally to increase humidity.
Fertilize the plant once a month during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Do not fertilize in winter.
Prune the plant in early spring to remove any dead or damaged foliage. You can also cut back the entire plant by two-thirds to encourage new growth.
Liriope muscari is relatively pest-free, but can be affected by spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
12-18 inches (30-45 cm)
Water the plant deeply once a week during the growing season, and reduce watering in winter. It prefers well-draining soil and does not tolerate waterlogged conditions.
It prefers temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C) and can tolerate temperatures as low as 20°F (-6°C) in winter.
Late spring to early fall
Liriope muscari is easy to grow and low-maintenance.
