(Goeppertia orbifolia)

Round-leaf calathea, Goeppertia, Calathea orbifolia
Goeppertia orbifolia is a species of flowering plant in the family Marantaceae, native to Bolivia and Peru. It is an evergreen perennial growing up to 1 meter tall. The plant has large, rounded leaves with prominent veins and a velvety texture, which are green on the upper surface and purple on the undersides. It produces small, white flowers on long stems, which are followed by small, purple berries.
Not suitable for outdoor growth
Goeppertia orbifolia prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate low light conditions, but growth may be slower and the leaves may lose their color. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.
Goeppertia orbifolia prefers high humidity levels. Mist the leaves regularly or place the plant on a tray of pebbles filled with water to increase humidity. It can also be grown in a humid bathroom or kitchen.
Feed Goeppertia orbifolia once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Do not fertilize during the winter months.
Remove any yellow or damaged leaves as they appear. Pinch back the tips of the stems to encourage bushier growth.
Goeppertia orbifolia is susceptible to spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects. Check the plant regularly for signs of infestation and treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
18-24 inches (45-60 cm) tall and 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) wide
Water Goeppertia orbifolia when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Water thoroughly, but allow excess water to drain away. Do not let the plant sit in standing water as this can lead to root rot.
Goeppertia orbifolia prefers temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C). It can tolerate temperatures down to 60°F (15°C), but avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C) as this can damage the plant.
