(Echeveria agavoides)

Lipstick echeveria, Painted echeveria, Wax agave, Echeveria
Echeveria agavoides is a succulent plant species that has rosettes of triangular leaves that are green and red in color. The leaves are fleshy and pointed, with a waxy texture. The plant has a compact, clumping growth habit and produces small, bell-shaped flowers on tall stalks.
6-12 inches (15.2-30.5 cm)
Echeveria agavoides requires bright, indirect sunlight. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, but too much can cause the leaves to burn.
Echeveria agavoides prefers low humidity levels, as high humidity can cause fungal diseases.
Fertilize the plant once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.
Remove any dead or damaged leaves as needed. The plant does not require pruning beyond this.
Echeveria agavoides is susceptible to mealybugs, spider mites, and scale insects. Check the plant regularly for signs of infestation and treat with an insecticidal soap if necessary.
3-6 inches (7.6-15.2 cm)
Water the plant when the soil is dry to the touch. Be sure to allow the water to drain completely, as the plant is susceptible to root rot.
The plant prefers temperatures between 60-75°F (15.5-24°C). It can tolerate higher temperatures, but not extreme heat.
Echeveria agavoides grows best in the spring and summer, when temperatures are warm and days are long.
Echeveria agavoides is relatively easy to grow, making it a good choice for beginners.
Echeveria agavoides is hardy in USDA zones 9-11.
The name Echeveria is in honor of Atanasio Echeverría y Godoy, a botanical artist who contributed to the publication of Flora Mexicana in the 19th century.
