This is the container my Schlumbergera buckleyi grows in. It is a light fixture shaped like an acorn! It has been growing there for well over 20 years! I add water weekly or so. The inside of the "pot" is mostly covered in algae which seems to keep it from going stale. Maybe twice(?) a year I fertilize it with Orchid (19-8-16) food. Used to use (30-10-10). You might notice that the base of the stems is covered in deposits. That's due to me never changing the water. Just evaporation and the plant absorbing the water. I made a hanger for it from some nylon chord. Kinda like a macrame plant hanger. If you want to experiment with this for your Schlumbergera I would suggest starting a new cutting so you don't kill your current plant! Clare, this info is for you!
Gd morn Terry , thank you for sharing , am trying to make out what you are describing in your caption. This is just fab that your schlumbergera is thriving under these environmental conditions . !! O...
