This rather impressive privacy Pampas gave an optical illusion of movement due to the staggered placement of the grass and a curve in the road. This was discovered when a friend drove us past the curve and we saw Pampas moving opposite the car, merrily heading its own way. We both gasped and made vocalizations of disbelief but neither had words for what we had just experienced. The drive was elegantly trippy with shiny, silver plumes swaying on moving bases. The fact that it was a shared experience seemed to make it even more special. The next year the owner burned it to the ground. Year after that it came back but the plumes were ash colored and could not compare to what had come before it. The following year the owner poisoned and removed the grass entirely. I stopped and cried to see a field of nothing but plowed earth. The magic was gone This began my movement toward Buddhism and the stern tenet that everything in life is transitory and attachment to anything will ultimately lead to sadness and grief.
