Daltonia Moss (Daltonia splachnoides)
Description
A rather small moss with procumbent stems, growing as tufts or occasionally larger patches (rough mats) 4-10 mm high. The keeled leaves are distinctive: linear lanceolate, acute or acuminate, with stout evanescent costa, a strong entire yellowish border of narrow cells and elongate-hexagonal cells in the upper part of the lamina. Capsules are ovoid, erect, exserted on a papillose deep red seta. The whitish calyptra is fringed and the operculum is rostrate.
