Description

Barbilophozia barbata forms brown-green to olive-green, often extensive blankets or lawns or grows as individual plants between other mosses. The ascending and often branched plants are 5 to 8 inches long and are 3 to 5 millimeters wide. Its underside is densely covered with rhizoids. Spread on both sides of the stem, dense and unterschl�chtig arranged flank leaves are about the same width as long and divided to about a quarter of the leaf length in most 4 triangular, blunt-pointed lobes, the two outer lobes are slightly narrower than the middle. Lower leaves are missing or are only small and only present at St�mmchenende. Leaf cells are 0 to 5 microns in size and have slightly thickened cell corners. There are about 5 to 6 oil bodies per cell . The moss species is dioecious . The large perianth is club-shaped, deeply wrinkled in the upper third and contracted at the mouth. Brooders are very rare.
