Description
Polytrichastrum�is a�genus�of�mosses�from the�family�Polytrichaceae�The medium-sized to vigorous plants form loose and often extensive lawns. The ascending to upright, simple or little branched stems spring from short subterranean rhizomes. The leaves consist of a basal, the stems adjacent, broader and chlorophyll-free part of the vagina and a narrower, lanceolate and sharply pointed blade. The multi-layered leaf rib is very broad and takes - except the narrow leaf margins - the largest part of the leaf blade. The top of the leaf rib is covered with numerous Assimilationslamellen; these are about 5 to 9 cells high.
