Neckera pumila (Neckera pumila)
Description
The species forms light green to dark green, somewhat shining lawns. The secondary stems are up to 5 (maximum 10) centimeters long, flattened leafed and feathered. In addition to the short, normally leafed branches,threadlike,small-leaved,flagellar-like shoots are often found. These are used for vegetative propagation. The dense, slightly wavy, oblong egg-shaped leaves are sharply pointed, the margins in the lower half of the leaf are thrown on one side, bent back on the other side, and sawn in the upper leaf part. The leaf rib is short and double or is often absent completely. The leaf cells of the leaf center are linear,5 to 8 μm wide and 5 to 6 times as long as wide, rhombic or oval against the leaf tip. There are few square cells in the leaves. The moss is diocese.Capsules are rarely formed. These are elongated ovate, have a seta of 3 to 5 millimeters, and are only slightly raised above the perichatial leaves. The conical capsule cap is briefly diced. The spores are papillary and 14 to 20 μm in size.
