Northern Hygrohypnum Moss (Hygrohypnum polare)

Description

The sleeping mummies ( hypnum ) describe a pleurokarpe foliage species. The different types in the Middle Ages were used for cushion and mattress filling. In some regions of Germany the mosses were also used directly as sleeping camps. Subfossed finds from northern Germany prove this use. It should be noted, however, that in the Middle Ages all the larger branches were assigned to the sleeping moths. It is not surprising that her German name comes from this time. Hypnum comes from the Greek hypnos , which translates to sleep.
