Idesia polycarpa vestita (Idesia polycarpa vestita)
Description
Idesia polycarpa a medium-sized tree that can reach and even exceed 20 m tall, but generally remains at a size less than 15 m. The foliage is obsolete. The leaves are alternate, heart-shaped. This species is dioecious. The inflorescences are terminal panicles, pendulous. The flowers, yellow-green in color, are unisexual at five (but also 3 or 6) sepals imbricated, without petals. They are slightly scented. The male flowers bear many stamens, as long as the sepals. They are larger than the female flowers (1.2 mm in diameter). Female flowers carry embryonic and sterile stamens, with as many styles as sepals (usually 5 - 3 or 6 sometimes), with many eggs. The fruits are berries - orange to red at maturity - in clusters, with many seeds. These fruits persist a large part of the winter.
