Description
Mitragyna inermis is a species in the family of the red bellies (Rubiaceae). It is native to West and Central Africa. Mitragyna inermis grows as a tree reaching heights of growth about 8 to 10 meters and often already strongly branched at the base. The opposite and short-stalked leaves are elliptical to obovoid-shaped with a length of about 6 to 9 cm and a width of 3.5 to 5 cm. The leaf base is round to heart-shaped and the tip of the leaf pointed. The white to cream-colored and strongly fragrant flowers are in spherical, 2 to 2.5 cm large inflorescences together. The black fruit stalks remain on the tree for a long time.
