Chinese Photinia (Stranvaesia davidiana)
Description
A collection of this endemic species from Taiwan by our friend Philip MacDougall. This was formerly a Stranvaesia and now all Stranvaesia are merged into Photinia. This has lustrous narrow evergreen leaves, white flowers and a load of orange-red fruit in winter. This is essentially an eastern extension of the Photinia davidiana complex and is quite ornamental with narrow somewhat undulate leaves and clusters of small white scented flowers which turn into orange-red fruit which persists from late summer into winter. A handsome large shrub from higher elevations in Taiwan and should be good to zone 7 and possibly lower. One of those plants easy to pronounce silently in your mind but an entirely different matter getting it past your lips in any intelligible manner.
