Indian Walnut (Aeluropus)
Description
Aeluropus is a genus of Eurasian and African plants in the grass family, found primarily in desert regions. They are perennial plants, with branched rhizome and epigeous rooting stolons. Inflorescence in compound spike. Spikelets laterally compressed, with 2-8 hermaphrodite flowers , articulated with the rhachilla. Glumes shorter than flowers, slightly unequal; the lower one with 1-3 nerves, the upper one with 3-5 nerves. Slogany motto, with 7-9 nerves. Palea almost as long as the motto, with 2 keels more or less scanned. Lodicules 2, bilobadas. Caryopsis not crossed, brownish-red, with embryo up to 1 / 3-1 / 4 of the total length. Punctate thread.
