Satyrium humile (Satyrium humile)

Description

Satyrium humile is a species of terrestrial orchid belonging to the subtribe Satyriinae , originating in the province of the Northern Cape , South Africa. It is an annual plant, endowed with few roots that have tubers that produce stems, usually smooth, with few leaves. The inflorescence has small, non-resupinated terminal flowers , with sepals andsimilar petals , joined at the base. The lipis concave extending into two calcares at the base, rarely four. The column is variable and auriculate and contains two polynes. Its flowering is apparently stimulated by occasional fires.
