Ellen's paphiopedilum (Paphiopedilum helenae)
Description
It is a small orchid, the smallest of all Paphiopedilum genera. Only recently discovered, it is a plant that grows in the rocky cracks where humus is harvested (litofite). It is made up of a clump of leaves, usually 3 to 5, coriaceous, fleshy, rigid, oblong-elliptical oblong-lanceolate, apex tridentate, dark green on the top, with some purple spot on the bottom page. The flowering takes place in late spring - summer with a single flower on a stalked or pendulous stem, 4-7 centimeters long, pubescent, with color ranging from black to purple. The flower is large from 5 to 6 centimeters and varies in greenish-brown color, with shades ranging from yellow to pink-purple. As is characteristic of Paphiopedilum genus, the labellum is saggy.
