Description
Camissonia californica is a species ofherbaceous plant belonging to the family Onagraceae . It is known by the common name of California suncup . It is native to California , Arizona , and adjoining regions of northwestern Mexico, where it grows in plant communities of scrub and chaparral . This is an annual herb that produces a basal rosette of leaves and then emerges a slender and erect stem that can exceed 1.5 meters in height. The largest leaves are found on ground level, in the rosette; Those of the stem are small and filiform. The upper part of the stem is an inflorescence with very spaced pedicels. Each flower forms a cup with four petals bright yellow, sometimes with red spots near the base. Behind the flowers have four small sepals , which are greenish. The fruit is a cylindrical capsule 4-10 centimeters long.
