Heterocentron (Heterocentron)
Description
Heterocentron is a genus of flowering plants in the family Melastomataceae . It comprises 27 species described and of these, only 14 accepted. 2 He is originally from Mexico and Central America. They are shrubs or erect or procumbent dwarf shrubs, herbs or prostrated sufrutescentes cespitosas , rooting at the nodes. Main leaves petiolate (rarely subsessile), penninervias or 3-nerves, dense to sparsely hairy or glabrescent on both surfaces. Flowers 4-meres, pedicelled, mostly in dicasios terminals bracteados, simple or compound, or solitary, and in this case terminals mostly in lateral branches. Hipantocampanulate to hemispherical or subglobose at maturity, variably hairy to glabrous; chalice persistent, sparsely hairy to glabrous, triangular, acute to attenuated and typically with thick hair at the tip. Petals white, pink, purple or magenta, obovate varying to ovate, usually glandular-ciliolate, otherwise glabrous. Stamens 8, markedly dimorphic; anthers 2-locular, linear-oblong to slightly subulate and dehiscent by means of a solitary pore slightly inclined ventrally in the larger anthers and truncated to slightly inclined dorsally in the smaller anthers, the stamens larger with the connective prolonged below the thecas and modified ventrally in the insertion with the filament forming an enlarged horizontal appendix, deeply 2-fido, the smaller stamens with the connective barely extended below the theca forming an obtusely obtuse 2-gibbous appendage. Ovary superior, 4-locular, glabrous but crowned by 4 triangular scales, rectangular or variously lobed, glabrous or setose; glabrous and declined style; punctate stigma. Fruit in dry capsule wrapped by hypanthium; cochlear and tuberculated seeds; has a number ofchromosomes x = 18.
