Description
Gaudichaudia is a genus with 58 species of flowering plants belonging to the family Malpighiaceae . He is originally from Central America . The genus was described by Carl Sigismund Kunth and published in Nova Genera et Species Plantarum (quarto ed.) 5: 158, pl 445 , in the year 1821. The type species is Gaudichaudia cynanchoides Kunth . They are thin vines or small, straight shrubs . The eglandular leaves , but often with a small marginal process on each side near the base of the leaf, with small, free, triangular stipules , arranged on the stem next to the base of the petiole. Flowers of 2 types, casmogamas in umbels or cleistogamous in axillary, subsessile or short pedicellate groups. Fruit splitting into 3 samaras (casmogamas flowers) or 2 samaras (cleistogamous flowers).
