Description
Desfontainia spinosa grows as a evergreen shrub , which reaches heaths of about 2 meters. The opposite leaves are simple. Their leaves are thorny and so their leaves resemble those of Holly The flowers stand individually in the leaf axes. The hermaphroditic flowers are fivefold with double bloom . The five sepals are joined together at their base. The five scarlet petals are tubular and up to 5 cm long. There are five stamens present.On the fleshy, ripe white to yellow berry , the cup is still clearly recognizable.
