Glory of texas (Thelocactus bicolor)
Description
Thelocactus bicolor grows spherical to conical or cylindrical. The body is blue or gray-green, slightly villous at the top and often also thorny and about 6 to 10 centimeters in diameter. The 8 to 13 ribs are straight or rotated and dissected into obliquely truncated humps up to 1.5 centimeters high. The 9 to 18 marginal spines are upright or slightly curved and up to 3 inches long. The 1 to 4 middle spines are all up to 3 inches long and vividly colored, white or reddish in the middle or red at the bottom and yellow at the tip. The lowest is stretched out, pretty; the upper upright, flat.The flowers are large, widely spread, 5 to 6 inches long and wide with ciliate margins. The fruits are reddish-brown flaky and edible.Thelocactus bicolor is a very variable species in terms of color and density. It is therefore also called bicoloured Thelocactus .
