Micranthocereus flaviflorus (Micranthocereus flaviflorus)
Description
Micranthocereus flaviflorus is a species in the genus Micranthocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the yellow flowers. Micranthocereus flaviflorus grows from the base branching with columnar bluish green shoots and reaches stature heights of up to 75 centimeters. The shoots have a diameter of up to 4 centimeters. There are about 16 slightly tattered ribs . The oval areoles are studded with white wool, which later turns gray, and up to 1 centimeter long hair. The yellowish brown thorns that spring from them become dirty white in old age. The approximately 9 middle spines are between 0.6 and 1.3 inches long. The central spine is more robust and is up to 2 inches long. The numerous translucent border thorns are up to 5 mm long. The cephalium consists of white wool and hairy thorns that are up to 1 centimeter long. The tubular flowers are red to pink to bright creamy or yellowish. They are up to 1.8 inches long and have a diameter of 6 millimeters. The berry-like, bright red fruits are 7 to 8 millimeters long and have the same diameter.
