Nickels' Cactus (Coryphantha nickelsiae)
Description
Coryphantha nickelsiae grows individually or forms low groups. The spherical glaucoma- dark green shoots reach up to 11 cm in height when measuring 5 to 7 centimeters. The shoots are almost completely covered by the overlapping spines. The soft-fleshy, up to 10 millimeters long warts are dull conical. Occasionally, they have nectar glands. The usually single erect central mandible , which occasionally can be absent, is straight or somewhat bent and 1.1 to 1.6 centimeters long. The 13 to 20 crowded white edge spines have lengths of 1 to 2.3 centimeters. The pale yellow flowers reach diameters of 4.5 to 5 centimeters. The greyish-green or bright green fruits are up to 2.3 centimeters long.
