Description
Corryocactus brevistylus , sancayo, sanky, guacalla , is a flowering species of cactus , in the tribe Pachycereeae . It is endemic to Peru , Bolivia and Chile . It has fleshy stems that reach up to 2-5 m in height, freely branched from the base, forming large groups; dark green to light yellowish-green; 7-8-ribs, with thorns , the longest 24 cm long. Diurnally flowers, flowers yellow, fragrant, 5-6 cm long x 10 cm wide; fruit berry green-yellowish, round and juicy, 12 cm in diameter, with abundant spines, deciduous when ripe; They are called "sancayos" and they are eaten fresh and ripe, they are acid and pleasant.
