Flowers small, axillary, pedicelled, in upper clusters. Chalice 5-match. Tube of little cylindrical corolla, throat with 5 scales; lobes ± diffusion. The fruit is a walnut, dorsally compressed. The genus was described by Alexander Bunge and published in Enumeratio Plantarum, quas in China you Borealis 47. 1833.
