Description
Semele androgyna even climbing Mäusedorn called, is a species of the genus Semele and belongs to the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae). The genus is named after Semele the mother of DionysusSemele androgyna is an evergreen shrub that climbs to the tops of the trees and reaches a length of up to 10 meters. Young twigs are between 15 and 30 inches long and carry the two-rowed, leaf-like phylloclades The shape is ovate or oblong-lanceolate, partially lobed. The surface is shiny and the texture leathery.Semele androgyna is dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). Two to six cream-yellow flowers are in cymes together. The flowers, as well as the reddish berries are in specimens of the Western Canary Islands on the edge of Phyllokladien. In the variety Semele androgyna var. Gayae which occurs on Gran Canaria the flowers develop mainly on the surface of the phylloclades. The flowering period is from November to April.The chromosome number is 2n = 40
