Florida Beargrass (Nolina atopocarpa)
Description
Nolina atapocarpa grows trunkless , rhizomatous and forms 0.3 to 0.6 m diameter. The variable, grass-like green to yellow leaves falling down to the ground are 40 to 100 cm long and 1 to 4 mm wide. The blade edges are perforated.The non-branched inflorescence becomes 0.5 to 1 m long. The white flowers are 1.2 to 2.5 mm long and wide. The flowering period is from April to May.The egg-shaped to round capsule fruits are ripe and have a diameter of 4 to 6 mm. The spherical seeds contained in them are brown. They have a diameter of 3 to 4 mm. Seed maturity is in July.The species is to -8 - C frost-hardy . It is hardly known
