Quisumbingia (Quisumbingia)

Description

Quisumbingia is a genus of plants in the Apocynaceae first described as a genus in 1915. It was initially given the name Petalonema upon discovery. In 1936, it was renamed Quisumbingia because the name Petalonema had already been used for a cyanobacterium. It contains only one known species, Quisumbingia merrillii , endemic to the Philippines. They are sufrutice vines or lianas that reach 2-5 m tall, with fibrous roots, hollow stems, with papery, glabrous texture. The leathery leaves , 7-12.5 cm long and 2.2-9 cm wide, elliptical, oblong, ovate or, rarely, linear, basally rounded, cuneate, cordate or lobed, the apex acute or retuse, glabrous or pubescent, with 2-9 collets at the base of the leaves. 1 The inflorescences are extra-axillary, solitary, shorter than the adjacent leaves, with 1-6 flowers, simple, (sub-) sessile, rarely pedunculated.
