Waxflower (Etlingera cevuga)
Description
Etlingera cevuga is a perennial plant producing a clump of leafy stems 2 - 4 metres tall from a freely-branched rhizomatous rootstock. The inflorescence is separately borne on a leafless scape 5 - 15cm tall The plant is used traditionally as a flavouring for curry, for thatch etc. The scented leaves are used to make necklaces and as a mattress.
