Carpenter'S Groundcherry (Calliphysalis carpenteri)

Description

Physalis carpenteri is a 0.75 to 1.5 meter high, erect, perennial , herbaceous plant . It has a pile root standing vertically in the ground as a survival organ. It grows with a single shoot, which grows in the lower part in old age and branches strongly above, so that the plant spreads under ideal conditions to a diameter of 90 centimeters. Young plants can already bloom with a size of only 15 centimeters. The hairs of shoots , leaves and petals are fluff-haired and consist of short (usually 0.5 to 1 millimeter long), protruding, sticky and unbranched trichomes with a single-celled glandular tip, as well as isolated, smaller (less than 0.5 millimeters) Adjacent trichomes with multicellular tips. The leaves are alternately paired on the stems. The petioles are 1.5 to 5.5 (rarely to 9.5) centimeters long. The leaf blades are not split and ovate to ovoid-lanceolate or elliptical. Their length usually ranges from 7 to 10 (rarely to 14) centimeters, the width from 3 to 6 (rarely to 9.5) centimeters. The marginal margin is particularly wide in young plants, but can also be curved or irregularly toothed. If the leaves are toothed, they usually have one to three, but sometimes even five teeth per side. The base may be differently shaped and may be heart-shaped, rounded or even cut off on the same plant. At least on some leaves the base is strongly unbalanced,
