Fire Reedgrass (Calamagrostis koelerioides)
Description
Calamagrostis koelerioides, fire reedgrass, is a bunch grass species in the Poaceae family. It is native to the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, with a distribution extending east to Wyoming and south to California, where it can be found in many habitat types. This perennial bunch grass forms tufts up to about 1 meter (3.3 ft) tall. The inflorescence is a dense array of spikelets with the individual branches bunched parallel along the stem. Each rough spikelet is about 0.5 centimeters long and has a stiff, bent or twisted awn.
