Description
Rizomatous perennial herb with lignified and thickened base, with stems devoid of leaves ( escapes ) up to m. Leaves all in basal rosette , up to 40 cm, lanceolate or spatulate, flat, with 7-9 nerves. Flowers hermaphroditic , Actinomorphic, pentamerous, gathered in chapters at the end of scapes, with a pod of 09.04 (-0) cm surrounding the end thereof. Chapters 3-4.5 cm in diameter, with an involucre of bractscoriaceous imbricate, hairless, with wide scarious margin; the external lanceolate; the oval or elliptical stockings; the internal ones wider in the upper part than in the lower one (obovadas). Chalice of 7-9 mm funnel, inserted obliquely on the pedicel and prolonged at the base on a spur of -.5 mm. Corolla with petals welded at the base, funnel, longer than the calyx, pink. Androceo with 5 free stamens . Ovario super , with 5 free styles . Fruits in capsule enclosed in the calyx, with only one seed. It blooms and fructifies from spring to summer.
