Iron Range Screw Pine (Pandanus conicus)
Description
Pandanus conicus from the Iron Range area in the far north of the Australian Queensland forms a large, multi-branched crown on a robust, solitary trunk, which gives it a very round "tree-like" appearance. The densely growing leaves are very narrow. Pandanus is a genus of monocots with some 750 accepted species. They are palm-like, dioecious trees and shrubs native to the Old World tropics and subtropics. Common names include pandan, screw palm, and screw pine. They are classified in the order Pandanales, family Pandanaceae.
