Description
Vanilla phalaenopsis Rchb.f. Former Van Houtte, 1867 is a plant of the family of Orchidaceae , endemic of the Seychelles islands. V. phalaenopsis is a large epiphytic orchid. The stem , with a monopodal growth , is often, and climbing, deeply grooved, with very evident nodal conjunctions, from which aerial roots start . The flowering is carried out by axillary inflorescences covered with bracts and carrying up to 10 flowers . These are large on average 4 or 5 centimeters, of rather thin consistency, with white petals and sepals and funnel-shaped labellum , also white with yellow or orange inside.
