Description
Pterostylis ophioglossais a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous, herbwith an underground tuber and a rosette of between four and six egg-shaped leaves. Each leaf is 1525mm (0.61in) long and 420mm (0.20.8in) wide. Flowering plants have a similar rosette and a single dull green, brown and white flower borne on a flowering spike 100250mm (410in) high. The flowers are 2530mm (0.981.2in) long, 1013mm (0.40.5in) wide and lean forward. Thedorsalsepalandpetalsare joined and curve forward forming a hood called the "galea" over thecolumnbut the dorsal sepal is longer than the petals and has a pointed tip 23mm (0.080.1in) long. There is a flat, broad U-shapedsinusbetween the lateral sepals which have erect, thread-like tips 2230mm (0.91in) long. The labellum protrudes above the sinus and is 1316mm (0.50.6in) long, about 3mm (0.1in) wide, curved and brown with a deep notch on the end. Flowering occurs between April and July.
