Description
Phalaenopsis pulchra (Rchb.f.) HRSweet, 1968 is a plant of the family of endemic Orchidaceae of the Philippines Islands. It is a small orchid, epiphytic , like all species of the Phalaenopsis type with monopodal growth . It has a very short stem enveloped by very imbricate foliar bases that door leaves suberette, arcuate, oblong-shaped from elliptical to obovate closely, at an acute or sub-obtuse apex. Flowering occurs normally in autumn , by means of a ' inflorescence racemosa or paniculata that protrudes laterally, from sub-erected arched, long on average from 10 to 25 centimeters, lax, covered with bracts shaped by a triangular carrier and a few flowers. Sometimes a much longer inflorescence (up to 60 centimeters) develops but does not bring flowers, but kelki apicali. The flowers are large from 5 to 6 inches, they are scented, in shape resembling a star and are of purple magenta color in petals and sepals , the trunk is trilobated with raised lateral lobes, whose central lobe is of the same color as petals, while the lateral ones are orange. The species is native to East Asia, in particular the eastern slope of the Philippine islands , where it grows, at altitudes from 100 to 650 meters.
