Description
Lockhartia is a genus of epiphytic orchids . It has 33 species that are distributed from Mexico to the South of South America . The plants do not have pseudobulbs , with a long and narrow flattened leaf that must always continue to grow, from which new short stems like rhizomes emerge . The stems are completely covered by flattened leaves, distichous, imbricate, triangular and short. The inflorescence is axillary, in panicles or tiny bunches , from the apical leaf, short, with few flowers, which at first sight resembles Oncidium . The flowers are usually yellow with red spots, or sometimes pale white. Elliptical sepals , some reflections and the petals a little larger. Labelo long, variously lobed, with narrow sidelobes and raised, possibly lobes formats with additional variables is large with complex multituberculada callus at the base and apex deeply twisted. The column is short, with small wings, and terminal anther with two pollinia .
