Description

Acianthera aphthosa is a species of orchid (Orchidaceae) that exists in the south and southeast of Brazil, in addition to Colombia,Ecuador,Peru,Paraguay and Bolivia belongs to the section Sicaria,subsection Sicaria the genus Acianthera,characterized plants Clumping growth,with secondary stems,also called ramicaules, with the upper triangular section, wider at the sheet on the base, inflorescence subséssil with few or many flowers, floral segments that are often thick, or slightly pubescent or papillary, in a group composed of more fibrous and resistant plants, with racemic root canaliculata, without wings or with narrow wings, whose leaf does not seem a continuation of the ramicaule, that is, the connection between the two is clear. This species is distinguished from the others being the only one with ramicaula with narrow wings, little compressed at the apex; smooth interior sepals; cuneate base sheet; lip of convex, thick and obtuse margins with a pair of thick calli; and apical sepals. Flowers of very variable colors, often dark.
