Bullich (Eucalyptus megacarpa)
Description
Eucalyptus megacarpa, commonly known by its Noongar name of Bullich,is a small to medium-sized tree of scattered distribution in the forests of the south-west of Western Australia.The tree typically grows to a height of 2 to 35 metres (7 to 115 ft).The bark is smooth, mottled grey, reddish-grey or white. Adult leaves are stalked, alternate, concolorous, dull, blue-green to green. The blade is lanceolate or falcate, 8 to 14 centimetres (3.1 to 5.5 in) long and 2 to 3 cm (0.79 to 1.18 in) wide.White flowers in clusters of three appear in mid autumn to late spring,between April and November.The tree is found on hills, near swamps and along the banks of streams in the Peel and South West regions of Western Australia where it grows in sand and sandy loam soils over limestone.The species was first described by the botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in 1860 in the journal Fragmenta phytographica Australiae from samples collected by George Maxwell near Wilson Inlet in 1858.
