Description
Eucalyptus diptera, commonly known as the two-winged gimlet, is a eucalypt that is native to Western Australia. The mallee tree typically grows to a height of 3 to 8 metres (10 to 26 ft) but can reach as high as 15 m (49 ft) and has smooth bark. It blooms between February and May or August and September producing inflorescences with white and yellow-green flowers. It usually only has a single trunk unless affected by fire when the lignotuber can sprout further trunks. It has an erect to spreading habit with a moderately dense canopy that spreads to a width of 5 to 7 m (16 to 23 ft) The smooth fluted trunk is a copper bronze colour. The adult leaves are glossy, green, thick and concolorous with a disjunct arrangement. the leaf blade is a linear or narrow lanceolate shape and is basally tapered. The leaves are 6 to 9 centimetres (2.4 to 3.5 in) in length and 0.8 to 1.5 cm (0.31 to 0.59 in) wide. Each simple, axillary conflorescence is made up of one to three flowered umbellasters[3] with the conflorescence being around 2 cm (0.79 in) across. The buds have a conical shape with a calyx calyptrate that sheds early. Each fruit is hemispherical with a depressed and exserted valves. The flowers and fruit form as clusters
