Description
Calathea crotalifera is a phanerogamous species of the family Marantaceae , native to America. They are caulescent plants, which reach a size of 1.6-3 m high. Basal leaves and a caulinar, laminae 33-110 cm long and 16-55 cm wide, apex broadly rounded, sometimes with a small tip, green in the bundle (often paler along the main nerve), gray- green on the underside; pulvínulo, petiole and pod green. Inflorescences 2-5 per bud, rectangular, laterally flattened, 12-25 cm long and 4.5-7.5 cm wide, bracts 16-36, distichous, persistent, erect, conduplicately bent, glossy, subglabra centrally on the outer surface, margins hairy, yellow, yellow-green or tanned, open flowers, yellow-orange or with lilac external stamindes; sepals 15-21 mm long; Corolla tube 31-36 mm long. Obovoid, rounded, yellow capsules persistent sepals; dark blue seeds.
