Butterworts (Pinguicula vallisneriifolia)
Description
Pinguicula vallisneriifolia is a carnivorous plant of the genus of fatty herbs ( pinguicula ). Towards winter, the perennial plant forms a winter rosette and larger leaves again in the spring. Fleshy, light green, linear-lanceolate and upright leaves form a rosette with a diameter of up to 50 cm. On the surface, the leaves are sticky with the catching secretion, with which they catch small insects (eg, scary mosquitoes , ants ) and, as soon as prey is obtained, digested by enzymes . Pinguicula vallisneriifolia flowers violet on a flower stalk growing from the center of the rosette with a white maw spot in single, zygomorphic , 2.5 to 4 cm large flower . The chromosome number is 2n = 32
