Teucrium heterophyllum (Teucrium heterophyllum)
Description
Teucrium heterophyllum is a species of flowering plants in the family of Lamiaceae and kind of germander . It is endemic to Macaronesia and specifically the Canary Islands and Madeira . Charles Louis The Heir of Brutelle first described this species, in 1788, and named it Teucrium heterophyllum 2 , which is his correct name . The holotype was harvested by Francis Masson in 1776. In 1845, Philip Barker Webb and Sabin Berthelot , observing the specimen that L'Héritier used to name this taxon, challenge its classification in the genus Teucrium and propose a new name Poliodendron heterophyllum 4 . But this homotypic synonym is not accepted today 5 , since the ranking in the Teucrium is maintained. Teucrium heterophyllum forms a short-hairy bush 2 to 3 meters in height 3 . Tomentose leaves, greenish to greyish-white above and greyish-white below. They are oval-lanceolate, obtuse, whole or crenellated at the top and measure 2.5 to 5 centimeters long and 0.7 to 2 centimeters wide 3 . The flowers are verticillées by 2 or 3, rarely 1 or 4.
