Description
Gyrocarpus is a genus botanical of flowering plants in the family of hernandiáceas . It comprises 12 species described and 5 accepted. They are deciduous trees or shrubs with soft wood; polygamous plants. Whole leaves or with 3 shallow wolves to deep 5-lobed, palmatinerv, membranous to chartaceous, cystolite present; long petioles. Inflorescence a dicasio with numerous staminate flowers or hermaphrodites, small, ebracted; staminate flowers added distally in the dicasium, tepals 4-8, some frequently reduced to staminodes, stamens 4-5, small pistilodium; perfect flowers with 6-8 tepals, 2 large, 4 small and united with the largest, and 2 small and free, ovary inferno, tomentose, solitary ovule, stigma capitated. Ovoid or ellipsoid fruit, with 2 underlying acres, winged tepals; solitary seed, wrinkled cotyledons or spirals.
