Description

Leaves opposite, borne on upper 3-7 nodes, those of a pair usually unequal, nearly symmetrical, chartaceous, oblanceolate, elliptic-oblanceolate, or occasionally elliptic, 9.5-28 cm long, 2.6-7.5 cm wide, upper surface moderately to sparsely hirtellous, densely so when young, lower surface moderately to densely velvety pilose, the hairs yellowish brown, becoming purplish brown on petiole, margins serrate, apex long-acuminate, base long-attenuate, petioles 1.3-8.8 cm long. Flowers 1-6 in open cymes arising in the leaf axils, densely shaggy dark reddish brown villous throughout, peduncles stout, 15-40 mm long, pedicels slender, 15-30 mm long, bracts lanceolate, 8-15 mm long; calyx nearly actinomorphic, broadly saucer-shaped, 8-12 mm long, cleft ca. 1/4-1/2 its length, the lobes broadly elliptic, long-villous, moderately so within, apex acuminate; corolla white, tube cylindrical, curved, 7-10 mm long, moderately villous, lobes unknown; ovary glabrous; style ca. 7-8 mm long, sparsely pilose.
