Beetleweed (Galax urceolata)
Description
It is a perennial herb that grows 30 to 45 cm (rarely 75 cm) tall, with a rosette of leathery leaves that grow only on the basis of the plant and turn brown during the winter. The leaves are rounded with a heart shape, 2.5 to 7.5 cm in diameter, rarely up to 15 cm, with a dentate margin with rounded "teeth". The flowers are produced from late spring to early summer, are white and appear in a single inflorescence as a cluster of 15-25 cm long on top of a tall stem. Each individual flower has five petals, and measures up to 4 mm in diameter. The fruit is a small capsule containing numerous seeds.
