Description
Oreobolus is a genus of herbaceous plants with 17accepted species , of the 23 described, belonging to the family of the Cyperaceae. It is distributed from Costa Rica to Argentina and Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hawaii and Tahiti. Perennial plants are cespitosas or pulviniformes. Stems obtusely tr-gonos. Numerous basal leaves, spirally dystic, rigid, grooved, composed of an open sheath, a sometimes inconspicuous narrow part (pseudopecolle) and a lamina 1-nervia, the margins spinning toward the apex acute, blackish-brown. Inflorescence occult between the leaves, terminal but looking axillary because of the lateral branches that emerge immediately below the inflorescence, ebracteada, composed of 1 spikelet solitary or 2-5 spikelets arranged racemously with 1-2 bracts with closed pods. Bisexual spikelets with 1 apparently terminal flower. Glumes 3-5, foliiformes, equitantes. Bisexual flowers; Perianth of 6 scales in 2 whorls, triangular or ovate-oblong scales, acute, 1-nerve, Scabrous-ciliolate, persistent in rachis; Stamens 3; Stigmas 3. Aquenia more or less estipitated.
