Epiphytic Flatsedge (Cyperus lanceolatus)
Description
Annual. Stems 4-8 in. long. Leaves 2/3 as long as the stem, 1/16- 1/10 in. broad. Spikes loosely umbellate (or 1); bracts 2-3, suberect, lowest up to 4 in. long, similar to the leaves. Spikes of 3-8 clustered spikelets, ebracteolate. Spikelets 1/4- 1/3 by 1/10- 1/8 in., compressed, narrower at each end, reddish-brown, each perfecting 5-10 nuts. Glumes ovate, obtuse, boat-shaped, inflated. Nut 1/2 the length of glume, ellipsoid, brown, transversely muriculate by reason of the subpersistent ends of the small longitudinally-oblong persistent cells.
