Tree of love (Aichryson laxum)

Description

Aichryson laxum is a biennial (plants die after flowering unless the inflorescence is removed as the flowers die) succulent plant, up to 20 inches (50 cm) tall, with stems covered with short hairs and hairy, green or reddish (in strong light) leaves, up to 3 inches (7.5 cm) long, arranged in rosettes at the tip of stems. The inflorescence is a branched cluster of up to 50 star-like, yellow flowers. Aichryson is a genus of about 15 species of succulent, subtropical plants, mostly native to the Canary Islands, with a few in the Azores, Madeira and Morocco, and one in Portugal. The species of Aichryson are not frost-resistant. They are related to Sempervivum, Jovibarba, Greenovia, Aeonium and Monanthes, readily seen in their similar flowers.
