Tunillo (Stenocereus treleasei)
Description
Stenocereus treleasei is a species of the genus Stenocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the American botanist William Trelease . A Spanish trivial name is "Tunillo" . Stenocereus treleasei grows shrubby or tree-shaped with some branched stems or is unbranched and reaches heights of growth of 2 to 4 meters. Sometimes a clear trunk is formed. The upright, columnar, dark green to bluish green shoots have diameters of up to 22 centimeters. There are 15 to 20 blunt and slightly curved ribs . The thorns are often not distinguishable in middle and side thorns. The one to four middle spines are 4 to 5 inches long. One of them is longer than the rest. The ten to thirteen yellowish spines are 5 to 12 millimeters long
